The environment of the Sudan has been devastated by desertification and years of war. The civil war has generated roughly 6 million internally displaced
persons (IDPs) in the whole of the Sudan. Soldiers, rebels, and militia have burned thousands of villages, raped villagers, and destroyed their crops and livestock.

- The environment in Darfur has been increasingly decimated, undergone desertification, and cannot support the current population
- The process of rebuilding Darfur will rely heavily on the international community
